Name: Hannah Kowszun
Age: 24
Job Title & Organization: Communications and Membership Co-ordinator, London Community Recycling Network
Qualifications: BA (Hons) in theology

So, what do you actually do?
I design and produce all communications material, write a weekly e-news, and update and maintain the website. I do PR, publicity and public affairs lobbying for London CRN and members, as well as plan and deliver an annual highlight event for London Sustainability Week.

How did you get into it?
I was communications manager for a furniture re-use social enterprise, and was approached to apply for this job when the enterprise folded due to funding issues.

What skills and experience do you need to do your job?
Energy! You need the confidence to talk to anyone with enthusiasm, and understanding of the technical issues for the sector, such as recycling and re-use. And, of course, the ability to design and write.

What kind of personality is best suited to working in a job like yours?
You should be friendly, quick-thinking, good at time management, enthusiastic and idealistic.

What are the best things about your job?
Being so proud of the work we and our members do to make London a more sustainable city. The chance to tell people about the opportunities for sustainable resources in London. Being allowed to write, to discuss and to be creative - three of my favourite things!

Any top tips for someone wanting to get into this work?
Care about the cause. If you don’t, it will be harder to communicate the message.
