Benefits

Great Networking

One of the most common requests when we asked people what they wanted was the chance to network with other communications professionals. So we will be providing just that: through meetings for communications directors, seminars, and a range of special interest groups.

A Fantastic Website

At the heart of CharityComms will be our website. We aim for this to be an astonishing repository of ideas, knowledge and information about charity communications: from blogs about the issues and challenges that charity communicators face on a daily basis, to the latest news and information for the profession.

Codes of Best Practice

One of the aims of CharityComms will be to develop accepted standards and codes of best practice. These standards of best practice might cover topics such as the use of images of beneficiaries or the use of research in media and publishing work.

Cost-Effective Job Advertising

Part of the website will be a job adverts email list. This way we will allow those who are looking for jobs to be put in touch with those who have them – and of course organisational members will get a discount too.

Charity Communications Benchmark

Starting in the autumn we will be running a communications resource benchmark. This survey will help provide answers to questions such as "How do I know that the Communications Department budget is a good use of our money?" And "Do we have the right level of resources for our size of organisation?" Organisational members will get a special seminar to present and interpret the results.

Supplier Discounts Charity

CharityComms will be negotiating a range of organisational discounts. For example, nfpSynergy has already agreed to give £500 discount for every organisational member who buys their services.

Professional Development

Many other professions within the charity sector now have their own qualifications and professional development standards. We believe that these are needed for communicators in charities as well. Later this year we will be pulling together a group to look at professional development for communications professionals in charities.

Supplier directory

Part of the website will be dedicated to providing a comprehensive directory of suppliers for charity communicators. This will help save endless time next time your organisation needs a communications supplier. We could go on telling you about the potential benefits of CharityComms.

However above all we want you to join because you share our vision, that effective communications can help your organisation and the sector as a whole be more effective. We believe that the higher the skills, the greatest the expertise, the better the standards and the stronger the networks of charity communicators the more that all charities will be able to use communications as an integral part of delivering their mission. And CharityComms exists to make that happen.
