The results are in, so who made PRWeek’s PowerBook 2009?
Joe Saxton, Chair of CharityComms and Driver of Ideas at nfpSynergy, has been named one of the most influential PR professionals in the UK, by PRWeek’s PowerBook 2009. This guide gives a fascinating insight into the people that make up the most powerful one per cent of the UK PR industry. It also gives top five mini rankings of PR people in specialist fields.
This is the second year in a row that Saxton appears in the guide, and this year he has been deemed second most influential in their Voluntary Sector category. First place went to CharityComms board member, and Communications Director at the British Heart Foundation, Betty McBride.
CharityComms board members John Grounds NSPCC Communications Director, and Carolan Davidge, Director of PR and Brand at Cancer Research UK, also appeared in the PowerBook for a second year in a row.
What’s it based on?
The areas considered by PRWeek when compiling this list includes: the PR budgets they hold, their personal influence and networks, the innovation and creativity they have shown over the past year and the contribution they have made to the success of their organisations (PowerBook, P2, 2009).
According to PRWeek, the rankings are also based on discussions with more than 20 senior journalists and industry associations (PRWeek, 25.03.09).

Betty McBride named her team as her professional career inspiration and deemed her best career moment to be: “Anti-smoking communications activity that actually helped people to quit.” (PowerBook, P78, 2009)
