Campaigners will attend a documentary film festival this week to hear film-makers pitch their ideas for projects on social issues.

People from organisations including umbrella body the NCVO, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Amnesty and the World Development Movement will hear pitches from eight film-makers. If a documentary fits the subject of one of their campaigns, they may offer funding, case studies or research.

The Good Pitch will take place on Friday as part of the three-day Britdoc Festival at Keble College in Oxford.

Kevin McCullogh, a campaigner for Christian Aid, said he hoped to meet "exceptional film-makers who use film to change hearts and minds and inspire people to take action to eradicate poverty".

He cited Black Gold and Bamako, both of which were released last year, as examples of successful NGO-supported films.

"Activism offers a life after the film is watched in a cinema, by taking the issues presented in the film on to a campaign conclusion – personal, political or corporate change," he said.

Among the eight pitches are a documentary filmed over four Christmases in Bethlehem showing the construction of the Israeli separation wall, a look at the workings of the International Criminal Court and a journey around the world studying different forms of social and political resistance.
