Campaigner

Directorate: Advocacy & Policy


Place of work: Based in London, with occasional travel across the UK

Purpose of job:  

  • Support the Campaigns work of the External Affairs team.
  • Contribute to achieving the aims of RNID’s major campaigns.

Key accountabilities / deliverables:

  • Work with the Director of External Affairs, managers and team members to help deliver the objectives of RNID’s campaigns.
     
  • Support and develop the involvement of our members and supporters in campaigning locally and nationally, including working to support Campaign Manager in developing the Campaigns Network.
  • To project manage specific RNID campaigns, to ensure that they meet targets and deadlines, and that they are comprehensively budgeted.
  • To plan and execute the organisation of campaign events, such as conferences, seminars, receptions, photo shoots and public launches.
  • Work with other bodies in the health, equality and disability sectors to build links and    support joint working.
  • To work with the Campaigns Manager in identifying and reacting to opportunities to develop new RNID campaign opportunities and initiatives.
  • To write and manage the production of campaigns materials and literature.

Other:

  • Carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all of RNID’s policies, but especially Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.
  • Be a passionate advocate for RNID in all dealings with our members, stakeholders and the public.
  • To complete any other duties and responsibilities when requested, which are commensurate with this role.
  • Commitment to and participation in training and development opportunities.

Qualities and Knowledge

1. Knowledge of campaigning and awareness raising techniques.

2. Some knowledge of Parliamentary procedure.

3. Ability to co ordinate work on several projects at the same time, often with conflicting priorities.

4. Understanding of issues relating to deaf and hard of hearing people.

5. Understanding of equal opportunities.


Experiences

1. Experience of handling complex subjects and identifying the key messages and issues.

2. Experience of involving the public and/or members in campaigning.

3. Experience of supporting successful national campaigns.

4. Experience of managing and planning projects or events.
