Salary Range: £21,005 -£26,147 including inner London weighting
Context
Coram is a progressive and responsive children’s charity which draws upon a distinguished history and reputation for contemporary practice expertise in creating better chances for children. The role, which will work as part of the Fundraising and Communications team and give support to the Chief Executive’s office in the delivery of internal and external communication and a public programme of events.
Purpose of the Role:
- To assist in delivering communications and events on behalf of Coram.
- To effectively promote Coram as a leading children’s charity.
Main Duties of the role:
Public events programme
- To coordinate and deliver an agreed programme of events for stakeholders of Coram including an annual lecture.
- Assist the Chief executive’s office to coordinate the Governors’ Dinner.
- To utilise the events management and relationship management capability of Raiser’s Edge and other tools to build and improve event mailings
Public Relations and Public Affairs
- Monitoring relevant national and specialist media daily and identify relevant stories.
- Horizon scanning policy/public affairs issues relevant to Coram’s work.
- Research, draft and distribute press releases.
- Assist in dealing with day to day media enquiries.
- Keeping a record of all media coverage.
- Generating monthly press cuttings packs.
- Create and maintain media lists.
Marketing Materials
- Requesting quotes for print/design jobs.
- Researching photographs and images for charity communications.
- Proof reading marketing material and draft publications.
- Assisting in researching and drafting copy for corporate communications including leaflets and the annual report and review.
Website
- Editing web content for the website e.g.: news and events sections.
- Compiling and disseminating e-bulletins.
- Researching developments in online media.
- Working with the Communications Manager on online marketing projects
Internal communication
- To provide logistical and administrative support to the programme of briefings, meetings, trainings and workshops which enhance internal communications and cultural development.
Administration
- To cover administrative tasks as advised by the Communications Manager.
- To cover reception duty tasks.
Person Specification
Skills & Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills.
- Basic knowledge of how to use IT systems including Microsoft Office and databases (e.g. Raisers Edge, Access) an advantage, although basic training available.
- Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders - including colleagues, partner organisations, trustees, governors, the media and political contacts.
- Attention to detail.
- Understands the importance of teamwork.
- Commercial awareness.
- Strong numeric skills.
- Strong project management skills, demonstrating a high level of initiative.
- Excellent understanding of the media, their workings and procedures.

- Planning and delivering events including effective guest administration and budgeting.
- Ability to draft written communications including press releases.

Learning
You will learn how the Fundraising and Communications team works in an integrated way with the chief executive’s office to promote Coram’s work through media, marketing, online activity and events. You will gain an insight into the process of project managing events and producing marketing materials and learn the practical skills of working with print and broadcast media.
You will have the hands-on opportunity to develop your written and verbal communication skills, team-working abilities, and will learn how to juggle projects and meet deadlines.
You will learn about the issues affecting vulnerable children, young people and families as well as the varied functions of the charity.
