JOB TITLE: Internal Communications Officer

JOB PURPOSE
To support the delivery of the organisation’s internal communications strategy. To enable the departments of the organisation to deliver key communications to staff, volunteers and stakeholders in a planned way. To take lead responsibility for the planning and implementation of a range of Barnardo’s events and conferences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To help implement the internal communications strategy to provide effective communication of relevant corporate information to Barnardo’s staff, volunteers and stakeholders.
- To develop internal communication strategies and plans for specific activity to Barnardo’s staff, volunteers and stakeholders (including council & VIP’s) to meet specified communications objectives.
- To help build a culture where two-way internal communication is seen as fundamental and integral to the health and success of Barnardo’s, where communication is seen as the business of every staff member.
- To advocate the critical business importance of internal communication and support the consistent use of the Barnardo’s brand.
- To continually evaluate the success of Barnardo’s internal communications, working with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Draft key messages for target audiences.
- To research, plan and implement a range of high profile Barnardo’s events and conferences, including the staff conference, AGM and others.
- Undertake risk assessments for conference and events to ensure risks are appropriately managed.
- Working and negotiating with external suppliers and venues to provide the best value for Barnardo’s.
- To provide a communications plan for each event detailing target audience and plans for reaching them.
- Provide knowledge, support and expertise in audio-visual presentations for Barnardo’s staff.
- Write and edit copy (ranging from news reports and features to interviews and letter text) for various publications and materials (both print and online), including staff magazine Connect, volunteer and supporter magazine Barnardo’s Today, the Annual Review, staff e-newsletter, the Weekly Bulletin, Fundraising and Marketing Bulletin and the Head Office Campus Bulletin.
- To implement, develop and project manage a range of internal communication activities and initiatives including manager briefings.
- Maintain and moderate Barnardo’s information and user engagement channels including staff intranet BaRT Essentials.
- To complete agreed programmes of work, meet challenging targets, deadlines and standards of performance as agreed with line manager.
