Job Summary:
Assist in building The Scout Association strategies and adopt tactics to promote and deliver inspiring Scouting Stories to the media. Promote media relations and support for relevant activities and events.
Main Tasks:
- Assist with the management of public relations and media campaigns to promote Scouting.
- Work with relevant media production and broadcast companies on specific events and opportunities.
- Line manage, motivate and encourage temporary/Intern staff and volunteers.
- Act as a credible spokesperson for The Scout Association in all media aspects.
- Build and maintain a set of media contacts.
- Liaise with Internal Creative Services Team to produce relevant articles.
- Lead the training and development of mixed teams of volunteers skilled in media work to promote relevant good Scouting news stories.
- Seek out inspiring stories about Scouting. Research and develop these stories and sell in to the most appropriate media outlets.
- Monitor media management tools and systems. Use these tools and systems to provide analysis in order to measure the success of our media work.
- Manage on-going media campaigns.
- Provide advice, support and training for volunteer Media Development Managers.
- Manage reactive events, deal with press enquiries following Court appearances, write and issue press releases and other copy when required.
- Provide a regular and reliable “out of hours” support service for emergencies, critical incidents and all out-of-hours media enquiries.
