Developing your Career with CharityComms

CharityComms members have two unique ways to advance their careers through professional development. Our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme helps you keep track of the events and training you take part in to improve your comms skills and knowledge. Our mentoring programme matches you with a partner who is most likely to help you achieve your goals. The popularity of our mentoring programme means we are always looking to recruit new mentors. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in taking part.

CharityComms Mentoring Scheme

ChartityComms’ unique mentoring scheme matches communications professionals working in the charity sector in mentoring relationships as part of their professional development. Individuals looking to be mentored set their own objectives and are helped to reach them through the support, guidance and challenge of an external communications colleague. CharityComms’ personal matching service takes care to partner you with a mentor who is most likely to help you achieve your goals.

The way the mentoring relationship works is flexible according to the availability and objectives of the mentor and mentee. Together you decide what the aims of the mentoring relationship will be, how often you will meet and the length of time of your meetings. It is a scheme that is tailored to suit each individual.

What are the benefits of being mentored?

  • Receive advice, guidance and feedback from an experienced comms professional
  • The scheme provides a safe environment to discuss your job with someone neutral, outside your work-space
  • A mentor can be a useful sounding board to bounce ideas around with and to gain inspiration from
  • Gain new perspectives and learn from the experiences of someone else
  • Find out about other job roles and the possibilities of furthering your career

CharityComms CPD Scheme

CharityComms’ continuing professional development (CPD) scheme is run exclusively for our individual and organisational members to reflect your commitment to developing your communications skills.

How it works:

At the end of each membership year, CharityComms will collate the number of CharityComms events that our members have attended and convert this attendance into CPD points. These will be put onto an end of year CPD certificate and emailed to you. Our point system is based on the number of hours spent at our events.

  • Seminars = 2 points (2 hours per seminar)
  • Brand Breakfasts = 2 points (2 hours per seminar)
  • Workshops = 5 points (5 hours per workshop)
  • Conferences = 7 points  (7 hours per conference)

Reasons why you should take part:

  • Certificates can be kept as proof of your attendance at charity communications events
  • CPD demonstrates your commitment to developing your communications knowledge and career
  • CPD enhances your value to your current manager or future employers by showing how pro-active you are with your communications career
  • CPD certificates are a convenient way to monitor how many events you have attended to list on your CV

How do I take part in the CPD scheme?
This is an exclusive benefit just for CharityComms members. For all current members of CharityComms, you will be emailed your certificate automatically at the end of each membership year and you can contact us throughout the year for an update on your points (lally@charitycomms.org.uk).
