There is no road map for what lies ahead of us – uncertainty around Brexit, policy shifts within the Conservative party, a rotating door of ministers and cabinet members, and more. Join us as we discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for campaigning, explore how the third sector can pull together in the face of these challenges, and consider where we go from here.

Campaigning with the Conservatives: What’s worked, what hasn’t, and what we’re planning next

We’ve now had a Conservative Government for a decade. Despite the challenges of austerity during this time, Mind, together with colleagues across the sector, has managed to achieve some tangible policy successes. These include the ‘parity of esteem’ amendment that put mental health on an equal legal footing with physical health, the introduction of mental health waiting times and access standards, and the Mental Health Discrimination Act. In this presentation Louise will share what they’ve learned about what resonates with Conservatives, what doesn’t, and what they’re planning next.

Louise Rubin, parliamentary and campaigns manager, Mind

15:45 - 17:00
Group Discussion

In this cathartic and practical group discussion, we’ll be considering these topics:

  • The challenges of working with successive Conservative Governments
  • The opportunities that lie ahead
  • Preparing for the unknown
  • Opportunities for the sector to work together
17:00 - 17:30

About the Campaign Network

The Campaign Network is a joint initiative from CharityComms and the Social Change Agency looking to address a gap for heads of campaigns and campaign leads in UK charities for strategic development, campaign sector development and professional development.

The Network will provide an opportunity for campaign peers to meet to discuss important issues at a strategic level, in order to raise the standard around campaigning. The format of the afternoon is a round-table discussion, led by our excellent facilitators, feeding into the group as a whole.
