Persuading senior leadership to give you that extra cut of budget, or to understand the value in a project you’re working on can seem like a mountain to climb. So how can you take on those gatekeepers and score a win for comms at your organisation?
In this session, we’ll be hearing from comms folk who have achieved buy-in at their organisation, and experts who have helped comms teams demonstrate value to make a compelling case. We’ll be pulling out the lessons they learned and considering how you can make the case at your own organisation. We’ll then breakout into discussion groups where you’ll have the opportunity to apply your learnings to an example and put the tips and tricks into action.

Achieving board buy-in for comms development
In this session, Paige will explain how she researched, designed and pitched her business case for additional resources for comms to accommodate a growing and changing charity structure. Paige will share top tips and tricks on how to assess requirements and overcome key challenges.

Steph will draw on her experience with charity clients on how best to use measurement data to demonstrate the value of your work and make a compelling case to senior leadership.

Making a multifaceted case for comms
Jenny will talk us through how, over the course of two years, she built up a business case to secure funding for a new intranet, website and a rebrand. Jenny is also expanding the team and will talk us through what she’s aiming for next.

You’ll then have the chance to put these ideas into practice with an example in discussion groups.
We’ll ask you to bring in your own challenges, or the cases you’re currently building. In your groups you’ll choose an example to work with and come up with a plan to achieve buy-in from senior leadership.

About the North West Networking Group
The North West networking group is a network of comms professionals working in UK charities and not-for-profit organisations in the North West of England.
Meeting three times a year in Manchester, each event focuses on a different comms topic with presentations, group discussions and networking. These events are a great opportunity to meet your peers, compare notes on workplace practices and share successes, ideas, challenges and inspiration. The group is designed to encourage networking and peer-to-peer support, sharing issues in a ‘safe’ and relaxed environment.
