Balancing asks is always tough in a social media team, but it’s even tougher now with more internal departments wanting to use social media channels to share their messages. How do social media teams keep the peace and the balance between engagement, broadcast messages, and calls to action?
Join us as we hear from charities both large and small on how they’re keeping the peace and striking a balance on social media.

Improving the supporter experience on social media Rather than bombarding your followers with a deluge of messaging, what tools and strategies can help to ensure that supporters get the best possible experience on social media, while still meeting fundraising and other objectives?
In this talk, Rich will cover topics such as Facebook organic targeting and using platform insights to inform content outputs.

Peer-to-peer discussion We’ll use breakout rooms for some much needed peer-to-peer discussion.
How to get your audience to engage with asks on social media without bombarding them As charities, we need supporters to respond to our asks, but too many can put them off. How do we balance the needs of our organisation with the wants of our audience, and keep supporters inspired enough to want to get involved? Rhianna will share some of the methods Crohn’s & Colitis UK have tried to balance their asks and successfully get supporters to engage online – everything from campaign planning, new angles to engage people, and making sure that people aren’t bombarded with asks in a short span of time. We’ll also hear how their social media team is working closely with internal teams to align messages and evaluate message frequency. Rhianna Campbell

About the Social Media Network
This networking group looks to address a gap for strategic and professional development of social media leads working in charities and not-for-profit organisations.
Each meeting will offer a safe space for members to chat about working in charity social media, with the focus of discussions on strategy-led topics. This is a space to learn together and share best practice, challenges, successes and inspiration with your peers.
Attending the Social Media Network events is free and exclusive to CharityComms organisational and individual members (charities only).
In between events, stay in touch with your peers via the Facebook Group CharityComms Social Media Network
