Having a mentor can provide an invaluable reflective space, to talk through an objective, sound out new ideas and learn about different approaches and professional experiences.
CharityComms mentoring connects our organisational members with experienced comms professionals in their field. Mentees apply with an objective related to a specific comms challenge or professional development need, and find a potential mentor using our online directory.
How mentoring can help
A lot of the time you have your own answers, you just need to be in the right space to talk them through with someone neutral – who is willing to listen, reflect back and share their own experience. Gaining a fresh perspective can be vital in helping you progress.
Having a clear objective is key. Our mentees typically request support with:
- A specific comms challenge, e.g. how to deal with a re-brand, writing a comms strategy, getting to grips with social media, or advice on a PR project etc.
- If you’ve recently moved into a new or perhaps more senior role, and you’d like someone neutral who has experienced a similar transition to talk to while you find your feet.
Who can apply for the scheme
How the scheme works
You register online and create a profile that includes information about your current role and what you’re looking for from a mentor match. You can then look through our directory of potential mentors and send a direct request to someone you think you’d like to work with.
