PLEASE NOTE: The CharityComms mentoring scheme is currently closed for new applications. We are working on an exciting new development, so please do keep an eye out on CharityComms eNews for updates.
What is mentoring?
In the dictionary, a mentor is defined as “an experienced and trusted adviser.”
On the CharityComms mentoring scheme, a mentor is an experienced comms professional in your field, someone to talk to outside of your workplace who provides a safe reflective space. With your mentor you can talk through an objective, sound out new ideas and learn about different approaches and professional experiences.
How it works
Both mentors and mentees sign up online to create a profile. Mentees are able to search the directory for a potential mentor and send a direct request to whoever they think would be a good match. The scheme is exclusive to our organisational members, although anyone is welcome to apply as a mentor.
The match lasts for six months, but you can be flexible and end it earlier if you need to, or continue to meet outside of the scheme after the time is up. The CharityComms team is here to offer support and guidance if you need it and we have lots of resources for mentors and mentees to help you along the way.
Being a mentor
Share your knowledge and career experience, gain coaching and managerial skills, learn about other organisations.
Being a mentee
Organisational members get exclusive access to mentors and one-off meetings with comms professionals in the sector.
“There are so many great people in this sector, all wrestling with complex problems as they try to make the world a better place. Mentoring is a critical way to share knowledge, uncover new ideas and build connections.”
“My mentor was brilliant. She gave me the space and support to step back, identify the challenges, and work through my approach to tackling them.”
