Reporting to:
Head of campaigns and public affairs
Role purpose:
To develop our public affairs work, and to work to influence the current legislative agenda and its local implementation, while building the relationships that will give our work a higher profile in the future. The public affairs officer will ensure that decision-makers consider our organisation the expert in the field.
Key responsibilities:
- Help develop campaigning priorities and approaches, using the new media, to ensure our issues remain a political priority
- Lobby around the passage of bills and amendments, debates, and the work of committees
- Identify/engage/build relations with parliamentarians, peers, and NGOs, including by organising events such as roundtables and receptions and maintaining a presence at party conferences
- Prepare briefings for internal stakeholders and for political audiences
- Monitor and report on parliamentary activity and press reports
- Evaluate the success of the organisation’s contacting and influencing strategy
- Produce policy research in response to political events
- Manage interns and volunteers as required
- Work in partnership with other departments and partner organisations to work toward further integration of our messages
