Communicating with purpose: audience-centred engagement strategies for charities

30 April 2020
etc venues Prospero House, London

It’s painful to admit, but our voice as a sector, is less powerful than it once was. All too quickly the ‘charity’ conversation turns to safeguarding failures, dodgy fundraising practices and the like. Even if these narratives are distorted, they ensure a difficult environment in which to engage, inspire and influence our audiences. It’s in this context that the external engagement function is evermore imperative for every charity. This conference, aimed at senior comms professionals, will delve into how charities can best develop and future-proof their engagement strategies.

Small charities conference
24 June 2020
Resource for London

Small charities often face very different challenges to larger organisations, which is why we run this dedicated annual event.  We’ll look at ways to make the most of limited resources, and how small size doesn’t need to mean small impact when it comes to communications. Following the sell-out success of our last four conferences, the agenda will offer a similar format, with a mix of workshops, case studies and peer-to-peer learning opportunities to give you practical take-home actions, inspiration and new contacts to continue the conversation with post-event.

Gold Package – speaking package which includes the opportunity to write an article for the CharityComms website (topic to be agreed), inclusion of your leaflets in delegates bags, branding in all conference promotion and post-event follow-up, etc.

Storytelling for good: producing authentic and powerful content
15 July 2020

etc venues Prospero House, London

Stories are one of the charity sector’s biggest assets. A well-told story can create wonder and delight. It can cut to the core of your values to drive immersive and emotional experiences that spark imagination, passion and the most loyal support. However, behind every story is a person with real fears, hopes, vulnerabilities and futures. As charity comms professionals we must tell stories honestly, openly and authentically, all the while protecting the people who lend us their stories. Back by popular demand, this year’s conference will explore the frameworks that underpin good stories and the best practice around how to look after our storytellers – from relationship building and safeguarding to aftercare.

Unlocking the potential of your data

30 January 2020
Amnesty International, London

Less than half of all non-profits make full use of the data they collect according to a recent Salesforce Report. Without good data analytics decisions are taken blindly and resources are allocated without truly understanding where they’re needed. Good data analytics should help support and drive decision making – helping us to improve our communications and the experiences we offer to our audiences, service users and community.

At this seminar we’ll explore how we can develop a healthy data culture, including the best ways to collect, analyse and share truly useful insights with your team and wider organisation. Topics we will cover include:

  • Data analytics – who owns it? Can it be centralised, shared and applied to business development?
  • Data in context: what should we be measuring and why?
  • Data-driven decision-making: how to ask the right questions and find actionable insights
  • Reporting: how to share data in appealing and meaningful ways
  • Tips for building a healthy data-culture
  • Examples of the best data-led campaigns and how they worked
  • Data analysis for charities with minimal resources

Brand 360: developing your brand strategy

20 May 2020
Amnesty International, London

We all know that a brand is much more than just a logo, right? Yet all too often brand is put in the “visual identity” box. Earlier this year third sector press coverage urged charities to invest in fundraising over branding, demonstrating the continuing lack of understanding around the strategic role of brand.

Your brand strategy should run through everything you do, from your products and services to your marketing communications. It should be your guiding compass for decision making. and behaviour, building trust and inspiring loyal support in your cause. This event will explore brand as a strategic tool across all parts of a charity from fundraising and communications to customer experience and campaigns.

Topics we’ll cover may include:

  • The role of brand as a strategic tool and how to get the support of colleagues
  • What makes up a brand today?
  • Developing your brand strategy and positioning
  • Consistency vs flex – making brand work across your organisation
  • Launching and embedding your brand – culture and values
  • Brand measurement
  • Trends – the future of charity branding

Corporate Partner: £1,915 + VAT                      Standard rate: £2,420 + VAT

This seminar is already booked.

7 October 2020

But with the current, dramatic and ever-shifting political backdrop, you can be forgiven for missing a few of the other trends affecting campaigning today. We’ll hear from some of the leading lights in the sector to help prepare you for the year ahead.

  • How the Lobbying Act is affecting voluntary sector campaigning
  • What can we learn from organic movements and grassroots activism?
  • Claiming the impact of advocacy – the latest on monitoring and evaluation
